District I is responsible for a 36 square mile area making it the second smallest patrol area in the County. However, with a population of over 206,500, it is the most densely populated. Its borders include Washington DC to the east and Montgomery County to the north. There are 16 incorporated municipalities within District I including the city of Greenbelt.
No construction material of any type, no tires, household hazardous waste (paint, herbicides, insecticides, solvents, chemicals, propane tanks, oil tanks, furnaces, concrete, sinks, liquids, batteries, large rugs, auto parts, tree stumps, tree limbs, tree logs or loose piles.
Wire or old fencing must be rolled and tied in small tight bundles to be picked up. Doors must be removed from freezers and refrigerators before placing to the curb or will not be picked up.
To arrange a bulk pickup, residents should call Bates Trucking at 301-773-2069 by 2pm of the Tuesday before. Each address is allowed 3 items a week free of charge. Items left at the curb without being called in will not be picked up.

Yard waste is picked up on Wednesdays with your regular trash, but MUST be kept separate. Small tree limbs/shrubbery clippings must be cut in short (12”) lengths and placed in trash bags for pickup. Tree trunks will not be collected.

Recycling of glass jars and bottles, metal cans, plastic bottles and newspapers takes place on Friday of each week. Each property owner is provided with one complimentary recycling container. Additional containers are available for an extra fee.
